Positive body image, taking judgment off of ourselves, and finding true self-love are big things we strive for within the Chasing Alignment Community. One conversation around body image is actually WHY this podcast came into the picture.
Diving a little bit deeper into this topic, we want to bring awareness around the judgment we put our own bodies, as well as others! A few months ago, I was at the gym with Tannar (my daughter) and another one of our coaches had his daughter there, as well. We started talking and the girls started to play a bit. In conversation, he couldn't believe that Tannar was 8 months younger than his daughter & they were the same size. This triggered me because they are two amazing little girls with different eating patterns, genetics, and quite frankly, just two different bodies--AND they are perfectly themselves.
When we got a little deeper into this conversation, I broke down hoping that my daughter will never have negative thoughts about her body- which is probably a really hard thing to make a reality. We all have moments of weakness, feelings of imposter syndrome and dealing with the comparison trap. The big thing we need to talk about more is how to move through these limiting thoughts and beliefs.
Alexa asked me on this episode how I would deal with my kids seeing me struggling with my body and it was such a great question. After thinking about this for some time, I responded by saying I want them to know that we all have struggles and it is good to acknowledge them and then move forward by showing our minds and bodies some love.
This episode is one that is very close to my heart because I am someone who is in the fitness industry and I never want it to feel like a negative environment for my kids. I want them to be able to celebrate their bodies, understand that failure is a positive lesson, to overall believe that their bodies are absolutely perfect for them.
We only get one vessel to travel through this life in. We should love it, treat it the best way we possibly can, and embrace the ups and downs that life throws our way.
